Good Afternoon Upper Pine Families,

As we settle back into the routine of school days, the weather has been wonderfully cooperative, and the students have been enjoying the warm weather during break times and during gym classes.

Skating Rink:

Our skating rink is now fully operational, and classes have begun to enjoy this distinctive feature of our school. However, when temperatures rise and the ice begins to melt, we will refrain from using the rink to prevent any damage to the surface.

This weekend, I kindly request that community members check the condition of the ice. If you find the ice melting, please refrain from using the rink until it has thoroughly refrozen.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to Mr. Blaney, who has dedicated weeks to flooding the rink and continues to maintain it!

Gym Classes

Whenever the weather permits, gym classes will take place outdoors. We are fortunate that our school can offer a variety of winter activities such as snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, sledding, and skating.

Please ensure that your child is equipped with a full set of winter clothing— including a toque, gloves, snow pants, and a jacket—to fully participate in these outdoor activities. This is a school wide expectation for all students from K-8.

Your child’s teacher will provide further details about specific skating times. If your child wishes to bring their own skates/helmet to school, please ensure it is transported in a cloth bag with skate guards attached. Please note that hockey sticks are not permitted on the bus or on the ice during class times.

Thank you for your attention and cooperation.

Basketball practice times starting next week:

Grade 4/5 boys’ team – Mondays/Thursdays from 2:45 – 4:00 pm (Mrs. Backus)

Grade 4/5 girls’ team – Tuesday from 2:45 – 4:00 pm (Mrs. Smith)

Good Afternoon Upper Pine Families,

Christmas Concert

Last night, our school gym came alive with the joyous sounds of the holiday season as we hosted our annual Christmas concert. It was so nice to see so many of you in attendance, and we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your support. Your presence truly made the evening special.

The highlight of the night was undoubtedly the children’s performances. Their enthusiasm and talent shone brightly as they sang carols. It was heartwarming to witness the smiles on their faces and the pride in their eyes as they took the stage. We hope you enjoyed their performances as much as we did.

This concert was a wonderful way to begin the Christmas holiday season. We hope that this event has filled your hearts with the spirit of the season and set the tone for a joyful and peaceful holiday.

Thank you once again for joining us and making the evening memorable.

Due to the fire situation in our area, the decision was made for Upper Pine School to continue to be closed for students until Friday, May 19th. We continue to be in contact with the Emergency Services. The Leadership Team will meet again on Friday at noon and we will make a decision regarding the following week. As soon as I have any more information, I will contact the school community through email.

Your children’s teacher will be contacting everyone via email with further instructions regarding the work for the week.

As a preventative measure, I am forwarding the SD#60 Emergency Response Plan – Parent Guide. Please take your time and read through this site-specific document.

Due to the school closure, we are rescheduling the hot lunch program to the week of June 5th.

Our Track and Field Day and Kindergarten orientation day that was scheduled for May 19th will be postponed to a further date. We will let you know when they are rescheduled.

May 22nd is Victoria Day and no school for students.

We are thinking of all of our families at this time.
