Good Afternoon Upper Pine Families,

The chilly weather caused a bit of a delay at the start of the week, but we’re glad to be back on track now. Here’s what’s coming up:

Moana

Ecole Central Elementary School is presenting Disney’s Moana JR. at the Cultural

Centre on Wednesday, February 12, and Thursday at 10:00 am. The

60-minute musical adventure is based on the 2016 Disney film Moana.

In this thrilling and heartwarming stage adaptation, Moana sets

sail across the Pacific to save her village and discover the truth about her heritage.

She and the demigod Maui embark on an epic journey of self-discovery and

camaraderie as she learns to harness the power that lies within. Adapted for

young performers, this musical includes favorite songs by Tony®, GRAMMY,

Emmy, and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa’i,

and Mark Mancina, such as “How Far I’ll Go,” “Shiny,” and “You’re Welcome.”

Additionally, I will cover various aspects of our school initiatives, including leadership efforts from our student council, our newly launched school meal support program, the “Ready Set Learn” program, and highlights from various fundraisers and special events that have been shared in my weekly emails.

This presentation aims to provide a comprehensive summary of our efforts and achievements, offering an in-depth look at how we are enhancing our students’ educational experiences.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Good Afternoon Upper Pine Families,

As we settle back into the routine of school days, the weather has been wonderfully cooperative, and the students have been enjoying the warm weather during break times and during gym classes.

Skating Rink:

Our skating rink is now fully operational, and classes have begun to enjoy this distinctive feature of our school. However, when temperatures rise and the ice begins to melt, we will refrain from using the rink to prevent any damage to the surface.

This weekend, I kindly request that community members check the condition of the ice. If you find the ice melting, please refrain from using the rink until it has thoroughly refrozen.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to Mr. Blaney, who has dedicated weeks to flooding the rink and continues to maintain it!

Gym Classes

Whenever the weather permits, gym classes will take place outdoors. We are fortunate that our school can offer a variety of winter activities such as snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, sledding, and skating.

Please ensure that your child is equipped with a full set of winter clothing— including a toque, gloves, snow pants, and a jacket—to fully participate in these outdoor activities. This is a school wide expectation for all students from K-8.

Your child’s teacher will provide further details about specific skating times. If your child wishes to bring their own skates/helmet to school, please ensure it is transported in a cloth bag with skate guards attached. Please note that hockey sticks are not permitted on the bus or on the ice during class times.

Thank you for your attention and cooperation.

Basketball practice times starting next week:

Grade 4/5 boys’ team – Mondays/Thursdays from 2:45 – 4:00 pm (Mrs. Backus)

Good Afternoon Upper Pine Families,

Christmas Concert

Last night, our school gym came alive with the joyous sounds of the holiday season as we hosted our annual Christmas concert. It was so nice to see so many of you in attendance, and we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your support. Your presence truly made the evening special.

The highlight of the night was undoubtedly the children’s performances. Their enthusiasm and talent shone brightly as they sang carols. It was heartwarming to witness the smiles on their faces and the pride in their eyes as they took the stage. We hope you enjoyed their performances as much as we did.

This concert was a wonderful way to begin the Christmas holiday season. We hope that this event has filled your hearts with the spirit of the season and set the tone for a joyful and peaceful holiday.

Thank you once again for joining us and making the evening memorable.

Good Evening Upper Pine Families,

It’s hard to believe that we are already entering December. Due to the cold weather, we have been spending more time indoors. According to the Weather Network, temperatures are expected to warm up next week. This means we will have the opportunity to go outside before school, during recess, and at lunchtime. Please remind your children to dress appropriately for the weather and to continue bringing gloves, toques, jackets, and snow pants. Thank you!

We have noticed that many students are feeling tired and displaying less patience lately. We would appreciate it if you could talk to your children and remind them that there are numerous adults in the building who can assist them if they are unable to resolve any issues with their peers or if they need a break. Thank you for your continued support!

Changes In Our Hot Lunch Program:

Matilda The Musical

Several of our classes have registered to attend “Matilda The Musical.” If your child’s classroom teacher has signed up for this event, your child will be bringing home a permission form next week.

Please find the attached information letter from the organizers.

Transportation

Following the memo from the Transportation Department regarding students who wish to take a different bus to a friend’s house, we would like to remind parents that bus drivers require 24 hours notice for any students traveling on a bus for which they are not registered. Once the bus driver has approved the request, please notify the school office so we are aware that your child will be traveling to a friend’s house on a different bus. Thank you for your cooperation.
