Another new year is upon us and I wanted to introduce our new way of communicating with parents this year. It is called EAGLE NEWS and it is a live document that can be checked anytime and will have the most up to date information. I will send a .pdf version as well so it can be checked without internet access.

Reminders : Tuesday’s school is for grades 1-8. Grade 8’s beginning at 8:30 and our grade 1-7’s starting at 8:45. The day ends at 10:45.

Kindergarten families will be contacted by the school for news on transition.

Hello students, parents and families,

As the new school year quickly approaches, I want to introduce myself and share some important information. I’m excited to join the Upper Pine community and look forward to a successful 2025/2026 school year. A more formal newsletter will come out late next week, but below are the key events to get us started.

The school office opens for business on Monday, August 25th. 

First Day of School

The first day of school for students is Tuesday, September 2nd. Elementary (1-7) students will start at 8:45 AM and the Grade 8 students will begin at 8:30. Dismissal is at 10:45 AM. On this day, students will return to their last year’s classroom. Teachers will inform students and families of their new classroom assignments later in the day.

Day 1 new teacher information:

• If students were in Mr. Dale’s class, they will be with Mr. Evoy.
• If students were in Mr. Smith’s class, they will be with Mrs. Chen.
• If students were in Mrs. Sutherland’s class, they will be with Ms. Greening.

New classes will officially begin on Wednesday, September 3rd. Any new or returning students who are unsure of where to go should report to the office.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten teachers will begin contacting families on Tuesday, September 2nd to schedule transition visits. The first full day of Kindergarten is Wednesday, September 10th.

Badminton

Badminton practices next week are as follows:

Grades 4-6 Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 12:00-12:45 pm

Grades 7/8 Friday from 12:00-12:45 pm

2025 District Badminton Tournament

Your child was given a permission form with additional information last week. Please check in with your child to make sure that the permission form has been returned to the office.

The tournament is scheduled for May 1st and 2nd.

On Thursday, May 1st, the singles tournaments will be held: the girls’ matches will take place at MMMCS starting at 3:30 PM, while the boys’ matches will be held at NPSS, also starting at 3:30 PM.

On Friday, May 2nd, the doubles and mixed doubles tournaments will occur throughout the day at NPSS.

Mrs. Pomeroy’s Dance Residency

Mrs. Pomeroy’s dance residency once again was an engaging, successful and fun activity in our school. The students participated in many different dances and learning many new dances this year.

Last night, we hosted the family dance to conclude our week-long dancing. It was truly wonderful to see all the families come together for this community event. We would like to extend our gratitude to Mrs. Pomeroy for orchestrating a fantastic week filled with a variety of enjoyable dances.

Mrs. Pomeroy’s Dance Residency

This residency offers an exciting experience for the entire school, ending with the family dance event. Throughout the week, students will engage in a variety of dance styles daily. The family dance is scheduled for April 10th in the gym from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. This event provides an opportunity for students to invite their family members to participate in the different dances. The more parents, siblings, and guardians that join in, the richer the experience will be!

This weeklong event serves as a powerful community building activity, using dance as a medium. Students can expect to enjoy dances from various cultures, including folk dances, partner dances, singing games, square dances, and more. Each dance has been selected for its ability to unite people and offer children a joyful introduction to the world of dance.

Throughout the week, students will learn physical skills, terminology, musical concepts, and the social etiquette necessary for dancing in a group.

We look forward to seeing everyone there!

As we approach spring break, we want to take a moment to wish everyone a wonderful and restful time off! From March 17^th to March 28th, our students will have the opportunity to relax, recharge, and enjoy quality time with family and friends.

Basketball

Yesterday, the Grade 6 mixed team participated in the District A Boys’ Basketball Tournament, which was organized using a two-tier system. The organizers divided all the teams into two groups: Tier One and Tier Two. 

The final match against Taylor was very competitive, showcasing our team’s excellent teamwork, persistence, and determination.

I am delighted to announce that our team is the champion of the Tier 2 Boys’ Basketball Tournament.

Officials

Michael Akulenko, Tristan Illenseer, Aidan Bueckert, Ryleigh Scott, Edison Smith, Bo Denzler, Molly Sutherland, Blayke Hiebert, and Danielle Illenseer from Mr. Neufeld’s class volunteered for scorekeeping and reffing during the Boys’ Basketball tournament. They conducted themselves like professionals, calmly and accurately maintaining the game scores and times.

I would like to thank these students for embracing this challenge and for their willingness to contribute their time and effort to support the elementary basketball league.

I would also like to express my heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Smith for her generous commitment of time and effort in coaching the team and the officials!

Mrs. Fillion is another person who works behind the scenes and designs and distributes the permission forms. Thank you, Mrs. Fillion, for all your help and support!

The boys’ B tournament is held at MMMCS.

The girls’ B Basketball Tournament was cancelled, but the team was welcomed in the Boys’ B Tournament!

Kindergarten registration is open!

This is a friendly reminder that your registration is incomplete until all required documents are submitted to Mrs. Fillion. Please note that your child will not secure a spot in next year’s kindergarten class until we have received and processed the complete registration documents. Should the class reach capacity before your registration is finalized, we may have to place your child in a kindergarten program at another school within the town where space is available.
