Upper Pine is a K-8 school located at beautiful Rose Prairie, minutes north of the bustling Peace River city of Fort St. John. We enrol 150 students, 20% of whom are First Nations, and a further 10% are English as a second language. We have 11 teachers and 7 support staff, as well as a principal, Reading Recovery teacher and a part time teacher-librarian. Our school enjoys itinerant access to a range of services including counselling, speech (Tiny Eye) and language therapy and ELL support. Our facility is very attractive and welcoming to children and parents alike.
At Upper Pine we are committed to child-centered learning, collaborative planning, and PBIS school-wide discipline. Our parent community is highly supportive of school initiatives like playground improvements, school safety and community-school learning partnerships. This year Upper Pine will focus on developing our students’ skills in literacy, numeracy, and social responsibility. Some exciting dimensions of our school are wide access to I-book computer technology in the classroom and a top level sports program that includes a full-sized gymnasium, ice rink, and baseball diamonds.
