Upper Pine School February Newsletter
Winter has once again tried to get the best of us, but we are all persevering through and there is light at the end of the tunnel. It feels good to have more and more daylight each and every day. A busy month is approaching and all students and staff are working hard and playing hard.
Valentine’s Day will bring some fun activities with a Buddy dance after lunch. Intermediates will then continue with the dance as the Primary students go off to do some fun Valentine Activities with each other. Mr. Neufeld’s class will be selling chocolates with a Valentine that students can give to any family or friends.
February 27th is also scheduled for our Winter Carnival and the staff is busy planning fun outdoor events. If you’d like to volunteer as a supervisor or to even run an event please contact your child’s teacher directly and they will guide you to the appropriate place. Dates to remember:

New Hot Lunch option will begin on the next order starting February 25th – March 13th and the first hot lunch for the new “Chopped Leaf†option will be April 4th. There will be more information coming out with the menu options for “Chopped Leafâ€.  We are excited to be partnering with Chopped Leaf in trying out this option for our students and staff at Upper Pine, thank you to the PAC for scoping this out for us.
Cold weather/snow weather: to clarify – if the busses are cancelled due to cold weather students are still welcome at school, teachers are expected to get to work (of course some vehicles may not start so some may be late) – if busses are cancelled due to an accumulation of snow, students are still welcome at school, teachers are expected to get to work – of course they may be late if they have to wait till roads are plowed or even wait for daylight so it is safer to drive. On our last cold day, we had about 25 students, teachers decided to group them as primary and older ones and then decided who would do some math lessons or games, who would do art, PE and Language Arts/Library – Â authentic learning was happening.
Inside days – our outside cutoff is -20 degrees with wind. We do have some different options for students during inside recess or lunch time with a variety of teachers opening different areas of the school for students.
Stay Warm everyone.
